Description

Implement a comprehensive admin dashboard for site administrators to monitor and manage the application.

Required Features

  1. User Management

    • View all users
    • Create/edit/delete users
    • View user roles and permissions
    • Reset user passwords

  2. Character Overview

    • Total character count
    • Characters by user
    • Recent character creations
    • Character activity trends

  3. Party Management

    • Total party count
    • Party composition
    • Recent party activity
    • Party conflicts or issues

  4. System Health

    • Database connection status
    • Storage mode (JSON vs PostgreSQL)
    • Memory usage
    • API uptime

  5. Homebrew Content

    • Total homebrew items
    • Content by type
    • Recent additions
    • Popular homebrew

  6. Audit Log

    • View recent system-wide actions
    • Search audit logs
    • Filter by user, action, date

  7. Settings

Diagnosis

No admin dashboard exists. Existing endpoints support required features but lack UI:

  • User/role management via /api/users/* and /api/roles/* (backend/src/routes/users.ts, roles.ts)
  • Character/party data via /api/characters/* and /api/parties/* (backend/src/routes/characters.ts, parties.ts)
  • Homebrew CRUD via /api/homebrew/* (backend/src/routes/homebrew.ts)
  • Settings via /api/settings (backend/src/routes/settings.ts)
  • System health via /api/mcp/status and database config (backend/src/config/database.ts)
  • Missing: audit logging and consolidated overview endpoints

Possible fix

  1. Backend (backend/src/routes/admin.ts):

    • Aggregate endpoints for dashboard stats using existing services
    • Add audit log service (backend/src/services/auditService.ts)
    • Add system health aggregator using /api/mcp/status and database checks

  2. Frontend (frontend/src/pages/admin/):

    • Create admin layout with sidebar (reuse existing auth context)
    • Implement 7 feature sections as separate pages:
      • User management → reuse existing user/role UI patterns
      • Character overview → query /api/characters with filters
      • Party management → query /api/parties
      • System health → call /api/mcp/status and database checks
      • Homebrew content → query /api/homebrew
      • Audit log → new /api/admin/audit endpoint
      • Settings → extend /api/settings with admin fields

  3. Routing: Add /admin/* routes in frontend router

  • Is there an existing admin role/permission system, or should we add one?
  • Is audit logging already implemented, or should we add backend/src/services/auditService.ts?
